This constitution is meant to serve as an embossment of the Basic Laws governing the Body. It is supreme and its provisions shall be binding on all authorities and members of the association. Any resolution not consistent with the provisions of this constitution shall be null and void and shall have no effect whatsoever.
i. This association shall be known and addressed as "Association of St. John 94" set (AS94) for
short.
ii. Members of the association shall be addressed as "Asites"
iii. The motto of the Association shall be "Solidarity for Ever!"
i. Those who graduated from the St. John Cross Minor Seminary at Nsukka in the year 1994. These have the full obligations/duties, rights and privileges of the Association. ii. Any newly registered ordinary member begins the fulfillment of his financial obligation from the day of his registration. iii. Ordinary members should attend at least two meetings consecutively for the association to honour any invitation extended to her. Exemption to this requirement is applicable in the case of known and certified impossible circumstance. iv. Ordinary members who do not fulfill the financial and obligatory duties of the association have their rights and privileges suppressed.
i. Those who ought to have graduated from the St. John Cross Minor Seminary at Nsukka in the year 1994 but did/could not, but who have shown consistent interest and commitment in the affairs of the Association. ii. Extraordinary membership involves a three (3) year period of unbroken active participation to the meetings and activities of the association, after which, such, will be, on his third (3rd) year, inducted into full extraordinary membership and hence with, have the full obligations/duties, rights and privileges of the association. iii. Extraordinary members who do not fulfill the financial and obligatory duties of the association have their rights and privileges suppressed. iv. In the period of probation, a tentative extraordinary member is reserved the liberty to contribute to the association from free volition and the association reserves the discretion to honour/not honour them should they be having any occasion. An extraordinary member in making is therefore not obliged to the duties, nor does he enjoy the full rights and privileges of the association until after his induction. v. An extraordinary member in making, after his probation time, who wishes to be inducted into the association, will, before the elapse of his third year of probation, write a letter of interest, wishing to be inducted into the association. The body reserves the discretion to consider the status of such request. vi. Intending extraordinary members, who could not fulfill the demands of the induction prerequisites, remain friends of the association with no obligation/duties, no rights and no privileges of the association.
Any new member to the association registers with a non-refundable sum of five thousand naira only (N5, 000.00).
i. To foster love, peace, unity, progress, friendship, and mutual understanding among members. ii. To promote the spirit of co-operation and social relationship among members. iii. To encourage and promote the general welfare of the members.
Officers of the Association otherwise known as executives comprise the following: i. The president. ii. Vice president. iii. Secretary. iv. Ass. Sec. v. Fin. Sec. vi. Treasurer. vii. Public. Relation Officer/Director of Socials (P .R. O/D.O.S) viii. Provost.
i. He shall preside over all the executive, general and emergency meetings of the Association. ii. He is the head and primary care taker of the Association iii. His judgment and rulings will be based on majority opinion of the members besides his veto power. iv. He shall be a signatory to the association’s bank account in conjunction with the treasurer and financial secretary
i. The vice president stands in and takes the functions of the president with all the rights and privileges thereof. ii. His office remains silent in the presence of the president.
i. The Chief whip sees to the documentation of all official proceedings of the Association. ii. He is in charge of writing memos, circular letters, receives and reads correspondences and replies to them when the need arises. iii. He sees to it that all the association’s valuable documents and properties are kept intact. iv. He shall convene all meetings based on the instructions of the president.
He shall carry out the duties of the secretary in his absence with the rights and privileges thereof.
i. He shall collect all the money of the association and hand it over to the treasurer within 24hrs. ii. He shall keep the accurate account of the income and expenditure of the association and be ready to render the report when demanded. iii. He shall be a signatory to the association’s bank account in conjunction with the president and treasurer.
i. He shall take custody of the Association’s money and treasure and keep account of the income and expenditure. ii. He shall only disburse the association’s fund through properly authorized payment, countersigned by the president. iii. He shall be a signatory to the bank account of the association alongside the president and financial secretary.
i. He shall be in charge of publicities of the association and the dissemination of information about the association’s meetings and functions. ii. He shall be one of the delegates of the association to any external events. iii. He shall be, in cooperation with the president, in-charge of the organization of the associations’ social functions.
i. He is the enforcement officer of the Association. He is in charge of maintenance of peace, law and order. ii. He shall be responsible for the collection of all fines during the association’s proceeding, and hands same over to the financial Sec for proper documentation.
i. Every executive shall hold office for a period of four (4) years from the day of swearing in. ii. No elected executive shall stay in office for more than two consecutive terms. iii. In the case of sede vacante, a mid-term election shall be conducted during the immediate subsequent meeting of the association.
i. Any officer who absents himself from the meeting for two consecutive times without cogent reason shall be replaced and his benefits withdrawn. ii. Any officer shall be removed or suspended from office for any proven case of official misconduct or incompetence. iii. Such a removal or suspension shall be effective by a resolution vote cast in support by a simple majority of members present at the meeting.
i. Any member of the association is an eligible candidate for any office of the association. ii. Officers shall be remarkably elected by a simple majority of the members present at meeting. iii. Any person can be voted for in absence but nobody can vote in absence. iv. Commitment to the association’s welfare with a precondition of financial up-to-date and moral probity are necessary considerations / qualifications for any person to be elected into any post.
i. The general meeting of the association shall be held per annum. ii. Meetings shall be held by any volunteer, alone or in collaboration with another person. Where this option becomes problematic, the alphabetical order becomes the next alternative. iii. Meetings shall be held at the family house of town or place of domicile or in a parish. iv. Meetings are not to be held in a hotel.
i. There shall be annual contribution/lunching in view of the Association’s meeting or any other official issue. ii. The association reserves the right to impose levy from time to time on members when necessary, if there is majority approval or with the right discretion of the president and his executives. iii. The association reserves the right to withhold the rights and privileges of any member/s who is/are not financially active or so in matters of attendance.
i. Any person excusing himself from the meeting shall do so in writing to the association through the general secretary. ii. Any person who disturbs the proceedings of the meeting shall be corrected accordingly. iii. No member is allowed to leave the meeting before the end of the meeting except by a right permission. Noise making during meeting is not allowed. iv. All sorts of invitation to the association by any member or members for any ceremony must be in an official form. v. The association reserves the rights to suspend or withhold the membership of any member who commits an act of public scandal. vi. The association reserves the rights to adequately fine any member who defaults in matters of the association’s uniform in any formal gathering.
i. Whoever is absent from meeting or any official gathering of the association without a cogent written permission shall pay a fine of N500.00 only. ii. Absenteeism for three consecutive times from meeting without prior information or reason would merit a reconsideration of the person’s memberships. iii. A person is regarded as having come late if the minutes of the previous meeting has been read and adopted. A fine of N200.00 awaits such a person.
i. Benefits, rights, obligations are reserved to members of the association unless when otherwise stated. ii. The association shall honour any formal invitation extended to her by a member of any noble ceremony he is performing. To honour such an invitation, the association must be given at least one-month notice. iii. In case of ordination or marriage, the celebrant(s) are to receive souvenir bearing the official seal: a logo icon-containing the motto of the association.
i. On the death of a member of the association, members are to give the family of the deceased member the sum of N100, 000.00 and in the full attendance of all members. ii. On the death of a member’s parent/s, the association shall give to the members of the family the sum of N50, 000.00 and in the full attendance of all members. iii. In the case of other accidental eventuality of life, members are to show their solidarity in the spirit of the association.
This constitution is subject to amendments. The motion for this amendment is regarded as having been passed when it has been approved by majority of the executives and supported by at least 2/3 majority of members present.
The association shall make necessary by–laws to help in the governance of the association. I ……………………………………………….
